What Freshman Can Do -Take the most challenging and interesting classes that they can, while also experiencing academic success. -Do their best in school, building strong study habits. -Get involved in activities that help them explore their interests. Colleges look for quality of activities. -Start learning about the different types of colleges and degrees offered, and exploring colleges, majors and career options.

What Do Colleges Look For? “We look at your GPA and test scores, and then we read between the lines. What kind of classes did you take? Are your grades getting better, declining, or are they consistent? We read your essays, and we read your recommendation letters. We also look at your activities to see what you are doing with your time. All of this information paints a picture of who you are and whether you are prepared for Seattle Pacific University.” Seattle Pacific University

What Do Colleges Look For? “Freshman applicants who meet the minimum CADRs (College Academic Distribution Requirements) and who have GPAs of 2.00 and above will receive a holistic review. Curriculum quality (including the senior year) and the personal statement play significant roles in admission outcomes for freshman applicants, no matter how high or low their GPAs and test scores.” University of Washington - Seattle

College Bound Scholarship Provides tuition (at public institution rates) and a small book allowance for income-eligible students who sign up in the 7th or 8th grade, work hard in school, and successfully apply to a higher education institution when they graduate from high school. The deadline for all applicants is by June 30 at the end of their 8th grade year. You must meet income standards both when you apply AND when you receive the scholarship. You can learn more at or talk with Mrs. Newburn.
