Financial Aid 101  It is crucial to know your options when entering college as a freshman. Deciding to apply for Financial Aid is as important as selecting a college. It can help pay for full tuition and for books, if you qualify.

TWO FINANCIAL AID APPLICATIONS FAFSA & TAP

applying for financial aid is easier than ever Web Application  Easy to follow instructions  Allows you to skip unnecessary questions  Reduces processing time by up to 2 weeks   City Techs federal school code is

Student/Parent Financial Aid PIN NUMBER  Web Site:  Student and parent (dependent students) can sign electronically  Allows student to access their federal financial aid information on-line  Signature Page must be printed, signed by student and parent and then mailed to the Federal Processor if student/parent does not use a Federal PIN to sign

NYS TAP ONLINE  Link to TAP is available on FAFSA submission page. Click there to access TAP application.   General TAP/APTS/PTAP information:  Income/New York State 2010 Tax return needed to file  City Tech’s TAP school code is: 1405

When to Apply  For the academic year, the FAFSA may be filed beginning January 1, 2011  City Tech’s priority deadline is April 30, 2011  Must file a FAFSA EVERY academic year to qualify for financial aid  List City Tech on your FAFSA; you can list up to 14 colleges.

CITY tECH IS HERE TO HELP Financial Aid Web Lab –Room NG-08A  FREE, in person application review services  Bring your and your parent’s 2010 federal and state tax returns  Bring any information regarding untaxed income − child support, untaxed pensions, workers compensation and any other untaxed income Call the Financial Aid Office for Web Lab hours or (web-lab)

TYPES OF FINANCIAL AID Grants (DO NOT HAVE TO BE REPAID)  Federal PELL Grant  Tuition Assistance Program (TAP)  Aid for Part-time Study Program (APTS)  Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant Employment Opportunities  Federal Work Study Loans (MUST BE REPAID)  Federal Direct Subsidized Loan  Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan  Federal Direct Plus Loan  Federal Perkins Loan

TYPES OF FINANCIAL AID Scholarships (DO NOT HAVE TO BE REPAID)  Visit the Scholarship Office located in room NG-09, contact Olliver Davis  Visit for information on outside scholarships you can apply forwww.fastweb.com  Speak to your high school college counselor  Speak to your employer Many companies have scholarships available for employees and children of employees  Remember, “Never Give Money to Get Money” You should never have to pay money to receive a scholarship… Beware of scams!

TIPS FOR A SUCCESSFUL SCHOOL YEAR  File as early as possible every academic year and follow up  Always speak to a Financial Aid Counselor before dropping or withdrawing from a class  Be aware of the College’s Academic Progress guidelines for financial aid
