College Enrollment Rates By Katie Bailey

The Problem: College Acceptance and Completion Rates of 1 year of College 2008

The Intervention: MESA Mentor Program  Created a mentorship program that supported students through the application process and year 1 of college.  Applied for grant money to hire a transition coordinator that would help students with the enrollment challenges the summer after they graduated and continue to check in with students frequently throughout the first year of college.

Results: College Completion of Year 1 of College with Mentor Program and Transition Coordinator

Results  The mentor program and transition coordinator have been significant in increasing college enrollment.  Increase from 27% to 63%  Goal for next year is 75% of students completing 1 year of college

Future Recommendations  Add fund in the grant to loan students money for books while financial aid comes through  As student population increases we need more hours for transition coordinator  Create posses on each campus for added support of incoming students  Continue to track completion of first year of college and begin to look at 4 year completion rates.
