Idaho’s 84 HUCs

RWAs to be completed NRCS  84 eight-digit HUCs in Idaho  Three-year time frame for completion  Provide a comprehensive snapshot in time  Provide a platform for project development and implementation

Idaho Soil Conservation Commission  Received Cooperative Conservation Partnership Improvement (CCPI) Grant -- $200,000  Develop five Rapid Watershed Assessments (RWAs) for NRCS  All five watersheds provide key fishery habitat, and require the preparation of the agricultural and grazing components of a Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL)

Targeted HUC Locations Lower Clearwater Lower Clearwater  Priest River Basin  Little Salmon River  Weiser River  Beaver/Camas Watershed

Project Objectives and Scope  Comprehensive plan of the agricultural and grazing component for TMDL implementation  Complement other watershed efforts in restoring beneficial uses for 303 (d)-listed stream segments  Protect and enhance salmonid and wildlife habitat within these watersheds, including ESA fish and wildlife  Develop Implementation Plans outlining: Adaptive Management Adaptive Management BMP and RMS implementation to meet TMDL and stakeholder requirements and needs BMP and RMS implementation to meet TMDL and stakeholder requirements and needs The long-term stability of agricultural lands The long-term stability of agricultural lands Improve drinking water Improve drinking water Protect historical and cultural resources Protect historical and cultural resources

Summary of Work  Locate and use the most current reports, databases, GIS coverages, latest photo imagery and interpretations, watershed projects, plans, studies, and assessments  Literature search of studies and reports, assessments, investigations, completed project reports, etc.  Develop needed GIS coverages  Evaluate and use all available information  Coordinate all activities locally  Work with all stakeholders to develop priorities and alternatives  Identify funding sources

Where are we now?  Completed the largest project (Lower Clearwater) in 5-6 weeks Staff Staff  Key staff moving on to next HUCs  Plans completed to enable implementation

Additional HUCs  Central Bear  Bear Lake  Middle Bear  Little Bear / Logan  CJ Strike Reservoir

Partnership Discussion Topics  Two weeks may be too short  Six weeks may be too long  Cross-check data  Compare methods  Analyze reasons why
