Session Two OUR SALVATION Facts about Salvation

Session Two OUR SALVATION FACT #1 FACT #1: YOU are made in the image and likeness of God. –You are self-aware. Humans ask questions: Who am I? Question of value Why am I here? Question of purpose Why did this happen? Question of meaning –You are a moral being. Humans can choose (tell apart) Right vs. wrong… Good vs. evil… Honest vs. dishonest

Session Two OUR SALVATION FACT #2 FACT #2: YOU were born spiritually separate from God. You have sinned and that sin has separated you from God. –Rom. 3:10-18 –Ephesians 2:4-5

Session Two OUR SALVATION FACT #3 FACT #3: YOU cannot bridge the gap that sin has created between you and God. –Some people say: “I’m OK with God because….”

Session Two OUR SALVATION FACT #4 FACT #4: GOD has provided the way through his Son, Jesus Christ. (John 14:6) –When God sees your life, he sees all of it – the good and the bad. (Proverbs 15:3) –Jesus came to die as the payment for your sins. (Isaiah 53:6) –Jesus paid in full for your sins on the cross. (John 19:30)

Session Two OUR SALVATION FACT #5 FACT #5: YOU must receive God’s gift of salvation. (Be born again) (John 3:3) –Repent of your sin. (Agree with God about your sin.) (Acts 3:19) –Place your faith in Christ. (Trust in what Jesus did on the cross.) (Eph. 2:8, 9) –Surrender to Jesus as Lord. (Submit to Jesus’ authority.) (Romans 10:9-10) –Receive Jesus! (Receive forgiveness and new life in Christ.) (John 1:12)

Session Two OUR SALVATION FACT #6 FACT #6: YOU pray to receive. “God, thank you for creating me. I know I have sinned and need your forgiveness. I believe your Son, Jesus Christ, died for all my sins. I believe Jesus rose from the dead and is alive today. I now receive your forgiveness and invite Jesus to come live in me. I give my whole heart and life to him. Thank you for loving me and saving me. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”

Session Two OUR SALVATION Baptism is the first step of obedience to Christ. Baptism is a: –Public declaration of your faith in Christ. “going public” –Perfect illustration of your death, burial, and resurrection in Christ – immersion / baptism –Personal identification with Christ and his church – the wedding ring of the Christian experience.

Session Two OUR SALVATION Baptism… –Who? Believers only –What? Immersion –When? After public profession of faith –Why? Identification –Where? New Testament local church Baptism by immersion is required for membership at Southland Baptist Temple.
