Introduction Many Christians study “baptism” as a means to teaching others. Did you know, however, that N.T. teachings on baptism were directed at Christians? –Gospels: commission to make disciples. –Book of Acts: illustrates conversions –Rest: taught Christians various lessons as it related to their baptism.
The BIG Question Knowing what baptism is and the reason for it is not the end all. We – as Christians who have been baptized into Christ – need to ask: How does baptism affect our lives?
Baptism’s Affect On Christian Lives
It Reminds us of Our Death to Sin. Do you remember who you once where? Eph. 2:11-13 Those among us who live in sin MUST remember. Your baptism serves to remind you that we have all died to sin. Rom. 6:1-2
It Reminds us We’re In Christ What the Law of Moses could not do for the Jew Christ was able to accomplish for ALL. All (Jew & Gentile) baptized into Christ helps us to focus on Him – not the law – as our Savior. Gal. 3:19-29
It Reminds Us to Walk In Newness of Life Just as Christ rose from the dead we’re reminded how we’ve been raised to walk in “newness of life.” Rom. 6:4 –Our old man was crucified with Him. V. 5 –Christians must reckon themselves dead to sin, to put away the body of sin. Vss
It Reminds God’s Persecuted to Persevere Through Trials Among God’s people are those mistreated, abused, and hated because of their stand with God. We – like the readers of Peter’s letter – are reminded to endure suffering, knowing we shall likewise be saved. 1 Pet. 3:17-22
Conclusion We have biblical authority to teach baptism to those who have not been baptized into Christ for the forgiveness of sins. Remember, however, that the teaching of baptism in the N.T. – are for us – and reminds us who we were – and are – in Christ Jesus.
