Jesus Commanded Baptism… Matthew 28:19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, Mark 16:16 He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.

His apostles and teachers commanded baptism… Acts 2:38 Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Acts 10:47 "Can anyone forbid water, that these should not be baptized who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?" 48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then they asked him to stay a few days.

The Bible teaches that there is ONE BAPTISM… Ephesians 4:4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism;

An example of re-baptism… Acts 19:1 And it happened, while Apollos was at Corinth, that Paul, having passed through the upper regions, came to Ephesus. And finding some disciples Acts 19:2 he said to them, "Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?" So they said to him, "We have not so much as heard whether there is a Holy Spirit."

An example of re-baptism… Acts 19:6 And when Paul had laid hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them, and they spoke with tongues and prophesied. 7 Now the men were about twelve in all. Acts 8:17 Then they laid hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit. 18 And when Simon saw that through the laying on of the apostles' hands the Holy Spirit was given, he offered them money, 19 saying, "Give me this power also, that anyone on whom I lay hands may receive the Holy Spirit."

An example of re-baptism… Acts 19:2 he said to them, "Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?" So they said to him, "We have not so much as heard whether there is a Holy Spirit." 3 And he said to them, "Into what then were you baptized?" ….“ Matthew 28:19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

An example of re-baptism… Acts 19:3 And he said to them, "Into what then were you baptized?" So they said, "Into John's baptism.“ Acts 19:4 Then Paul said, "John indeed baptized with a baptism of repentance, saying to the people that they should believe on Him who would come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus." Acts 19:5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

Regarding their “re-baptism” Mark 1:4 John came baptizing in the wilderness and preaching a baptism of repentance for the remission of sins. Acts 2:38 Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Acts 10:48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then they asked him to stay a few days. Acts 19:5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

The Proper Mode… Romans 6:3 Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? Colossians 2:11 In Him you were also circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the sins of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, 12 buried with Him in baptism, in which you also were raised with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead. The Greek word baptizo means “to immerse, to plunge, to dip”

The Proper Authority… Acts 2:38 Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Acts 10:48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then they asked him to stay a few days. Acts 19:5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Matthew 28:19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

The Proper Purpose… Acts 2:38 Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Acts 22:16 And now why are you waiting? Arise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord.‘ Romans 6:3 Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? Colossians 2:12 buried with Him in baptism, in which you also were raised with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead.

The Proper Subject… Acts 2:38 Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Acts 8:37 Then Philip said, "If you believe with all your heart, you may." And he answered and said, "I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God." Mark 16:16 He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.

WHEN “RE-BAPTISM” IS NECESSARY IF OUR BAPTISM INVOLVED THE WRONG MODE… Such as pouring or sprinkling As practiced by Catholics, Lutherans, Presbyterians, Episcopalians, Methodists and others Our baptism lacked the proper mode (immersion) “RE-baptism” would therefore be necessary

WHEN “RE-BAPTISM” IS NECESSARY IF OUR BAPTISM INVOLVED THE WRONG AUTHORITY... If we were baptized by the authority of anyone other than Jesus Such as Ellen G. White (Seventh Day Adventists), The Watch Tower Society (Jehovah's Witnesses), Joseph Smith (Mormons), and others Our baptism was not by the only proper authority (Jesus Christ) "Re-baptism" would be therefore be necessary

WHEN “RE-BAPTISM” IS NECESSARY IF OUR BAPTISM INVOLVED THE WRONG PURPOSE... If we were baptized as a public confession of faith (thinking we were already saved) As practiced by most Baptists, Assemblies of God and many others Our baptism was not for the right purpose (remission of sins) "Re-baptism" would be required to ensure we have been scripturally baptized

WHEN “RE-BAPTISM” IS NECESSARY IF OUR BAPTISM INVOLVED THE WRONG SUBJECTS... If when baptized we were not penitent believers As is the case when people are baptized... When all their friends are doing it Because their spouse, fiancé, or parents are pressuring them to do it (and they do it to please them, not God) As infants incapable of faith or repentance If our baptism was lacking the right subjects (penitent believers) Our need for "re-baptism" would be just as great!

There’s only one baptism… Ephesians 4:4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism;

One baptism that is commanded by the authority of Jesus Christ… Matthew 28:18 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, Mark 16:16 He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.

There is only one baptism… it is for the remission of sins… Acts 2:38 Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Acts 22:16 And now why are you waiting? Arise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord.'

This one baptism is a burial, an immersion in water… Acts 8:38 So he commanded the chariot to stand still. And both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water, and he baptized him. Acts 10:47 "Can anyone forbid water, that these should not be baptized who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?" 48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord… Romans 6:3 Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? 4 Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death Colossians 2:12 buried with Him in baptism, in which you also were raised with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead.

The purpose of this study… 2Peter 1:10 Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble; 2Corinthians 13:5 Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?--unless indeed you are disqualified.
