Background Sri Lanka Sri Lanka: – island in the Indian Ocean – 65,601 square miles in extent – 20 million people – peoples’ republic comprising a Parliament, President and Independent Judiciary System. – President and Parliament Members are elected every six years. – over 95% literacy rate – two official languages with English serving as link Language – claims for over 2,500 years of written history – Very Rich in cultural and scenic features
CAA Sri Lanka - Background – Established in terms of the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka Act No.34 of – is the sole regulatory body charged with safety oversight functions in civil aviation. – reports to the Minister of Civil Aviation – is managed by a Board of eight (8) Members. – has powers to make independent financial and administrative decisions, within the overall policy of the government. – Faced ICAO Assessment/Audit in 1997,2000, 2004 (follow up Audit) and USOAP audit in 2010
