Name of Museum Path of the Iron Curtain Back to Room 1  This picture is showing the path of the iron curtain across the middle of Europe.  The iron curtain divided it so that half the Europe was communist and the other half was capitalist.  Some people were against this, but others weren’t.

Name of Museum Cold War Poster Back to Room 1  In this poster it shows how the Iron curtain descended upon Europe during the cold war.  It shows the U.S. president Harry Truman giving a speech.  The person that is on the podium is Mikhail Gorbachev's, he represents the Russian side of the curtain.

Name of Museum  His full name is Sir Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill and he lived ( ) and was educated at Harrow and Sandhurst.  On March 5,1946 Churchill made his famous Iron curtain speech.  Winston Churchill says during this time “From Stettin in the Baltic to Trieste in the Adriatic, and iron curtain has descended across the continent. Name of Museum Giving his Speech Back to Room 1  This is Winston Churchill giving his famous iron curtain speech.  It was Churchill's speech, which he titled “The Sinews of peace,” that changed the way the democratic West viewed the Communist East.  Many people believed that Churchill stole the phrase the iron curtain, but he used it previous decades before in letter between him and Truman.

Name of Museum The Iron Curtain Map Back to Room 2  The east side of the Iron curtain was mainly just made up of only Russia’s satellite countries that were also communist.  The west side of the Iron curtain was made up of France, Great Britain, West Germany, Italy, Spain, and the U.S. This side of the iron curtain was capitalist.  It divides them so that capitalist countries and communist counties are divided and cant get to one another.

Name of Museum Iron Curtain Back to Room 2  The Iron Curtain is basically a barrier that prevents free exchange of ideas and information.  This cartoon represents the Iron curtain and how goods and people could not go in or out of the Communist territory.  The person that is yelling over the curtain is a citizen from the communist side, he is yelling don’t fence me in because he is communist and he wants to be capitalist.

Name of Museum  Like the Iron curtain, the city of Berlin was divided into two halves the east communist and the west capitalist.  To make sure people in east Berlin did not try to go to west Berlin the communist government made the Berlin wall to divide the two parts.  At one point during the cold war west Berlin had a blockade around it to prevent all goods from entering it. After the capitalist side found out the started the Berlin airlift and sent in good and supplies by plane. East and West Berlin Back to Room 3

Name of Museum  Pieces of the wall are still found around the world today  After the cold war the wall was torn down so that it would not separate east and west Berlin anymore.  Some people even have the artifacts on e-Bay for people to buy for a piece of art in their house! Name of Museum  While they had the Berlin wall active there was a total of 125 confirmed deaths because of it.  Soldiers were place at the top of the wall to shoot people who tried to climb from east Berlin into west Berlin.  They also had added barbed wire at the top of the wall to prevent everyone from climbing over. Name of Museum Hammer and sickle Back to Room 4  The symbol of the hammer and sickle are a symbol of communism or a communist party.  The symbol represents the workers of communism. Both of these two things the hammer and sickle are tools that belong to the industrial and agricultural industries.  This flag was first used during the Russian Revolution.

Name of Museum  Russian communism started when Vladimir Lenin took over the government in Russia.  They then changed the name to The Union of Soviet Socialist Russia.  They then made everyone equal even if originally you had a higher paying job than other people you would have the same pay as everyone. Name of Museum  The reason why people in east Berlin wanted to go to west Berlin was because west Berlin if you had a good job you would have better pay and a better life.  If you were a slacker then you were in a communist government then you would be successful.  If you were a slacker in a capitalist government then you would not make any money.
