NYS Student Identification System (NYSSIS) Purpose: to assign a stable, unique student identifier (10-digit number) to every pre- kindergarten through grade 12 student in New York State public school when he/she first enrolls. Chief Information Officer) Districts are strongly advised to appoint a data administrator to coordinate and lead the collection of data, oversee changes in and maintenance of the local data management system, and chair a committee of district staff charged with ensuring the accuracy of data. NYS Virtual Learning Space VLS provides instructional content to teachers that will enable students to meet the State’s learning standards.
