JACK O’CONNELL State Superintendent of Public Instruction 3 Basic Facts In February, 2009, Jack announced the suspension of all non-mandated on-site CPM visits for at least one year He called for a “top-to-bottom” review of our compliance monitoring system in order to redesign the system to “focus the greatest attention on those schools that need the most assistance” The SBE increased its focus on resolving non- compliant items CPM reviews resumed January 2010 –Limited Scope –Pilot of risk-based LEA selection criteria –California Accountability & Improvement System (CAIS)

Academic: Top Cycle A LEAs with API (e.g. <800 in LEA or any subgroup) & PI (e.g. ≥3 yrs) & Title II (e.g. Level C) & Title III (e.g. ≥4 yrs) Note: Proposed criteria subject to change
