Improving the System Integrated and interrelated improvement of the parts, the people, and the organization. Change in one part of the system is accompanied by change in another part. (Jenlink, Reigeluth, Carr, & Nelson,1996) 6

School Support Team Functions From ESEA, Public Law , Jan. 8, 2002, 115 STAT 1499–NCLB 1.Conduct comprehensive needs assessment 2.Design, implement, and monitor plan 3.Check progress of school personnel 4.Provide additional recommendations 7

Function : –(i) review all facets of the school’s operation Key element of WS: –Examines components within the system SST Using the Working Systemically Approach 8

Function: –(ii) collaborate with stakeholders to design, implement, & monitor a plan to improve student performance Key element of WS: –Engages all levels of the system SST Using the Working Systemically Approach 9

Function: –(ii) collaborate with stakeholders to design, implement, & monitor a plan expected to improve student performance Key element of WS: –Develops competencies within the system SST Using the Working Systemically Approach 10

Functions: –(iii) evaluate* effectiveness of school personnel –(iv) make recommendations as the school implements the plan Key elements of WS: –Examines components within the system –Builds competencies needed to implement systemic improvement SSTs Using the Working Systemically Approach * “Evaluate” is interpreted as monitoring implementation or measuring outcomes and impact of the improvement effort. It is not interpreted as conducting performance appraisals of individual staff. 11
