OBJECTIVES  Review research findings on the NCSBN National Simulation study.  Explore and discuss how technology will drive a change in the way we deliver CE.  Demonstrate and discuss a point of care CE system.  Study administrative rules requirements related to CE.  Review the nursing CE waivers in the state of Iowa.  Discuss an acceptable version of a CE brochure.

NCSBN SIMULATION STUDY  Longitudinal, Randomized, Controlled Study  Purpose was to provide missing evidence needed by BONs  Control Group, 25% Group & 50% Group  A total of 847 consented to start the study, 666 completed  Results  Hayden, et al, (2014)

DISCUSSION ABOUT POINT OF CARE CE  Would you consider point of care CE as provider-designed or learner-designed study?  What is a benefit to allowing point of care CE opportunities?  What is a barrier?  Can you see nurses benefitting from this technology?

WAIVERS OF CE FOR IOWA NURSES  Active or military duty during all or part of the licensure period  Residence outside of Iowa in another mandatory CE state during all or part of the licensure period  Employment by the Federal Government (RN or LPN), and assignment to duty outside of the US  Foreign service outside of the US, where a current stateside license is required  Current certification in a specialty area for the ARNP  Physical or mental disability during the licensure period (Waiver requires an application signed by a physician)

GOOD BROCHURE REQUIREMENTS  Lists a clear title to describe the course  Name of the provider, and co-sponsor, if applicable  Date(s) and time(s) are listed  Address of where the offering is being held  Intended audience  Clear purpose statement  Objectives (use of active verbs is recommended)

GOOD BROCHURE REQUIREMENTS  Agenda (not required, but nice)  CE award statement  Registration, cancellation & contact information  A complete brochure includes all of the requirements according to 655 Iowa Administrative Code, Chapter 5 rules.
