Why the Requirement PEs have one of the lowest complaint frequencies No identified persistent problems Boards charge: Protect public health, safety and welfare—be proactive Standard of care in the industry Consistency with other jurisdictions

Biennial Requirements 30 Professional Development Hours (PDHs) Minimum 2 PDH professional conduct and ethics Minimum 13 PDH interactive activity Participants can ask questions and interact with each other and/or the presenter/instructor Pertinent to the professional engineer “Contributing directly to the professional competency of the registrant and pertaining to subject matters which integrally relate to the practice of the profession”

Qualifying Activities Activity pre-approval – NOT Responsibility is solely the licensee Become familiar with Wisconsin Statutes (02/08/08) Wisconsin Rules Chapter A-E 13 (01/01/12) Professional Engineer Section has final authority with respect to Acceptance of activities, courses, etc. PDH value for courses Other methods of earning PDHs

Qualifying Activities Completing courses taken at a school or college of engineering accredited by the EAC/ABET. Completing short courses or tutorials and distance education courses offered through correspondence, DVDs, or the internet. Presenting or attending qualifying seminars, in−house courses, workshops, or professional or technical presentations made at meetings, conventions, or conferences.

Qualifying Activities Teaching or instructing PDHs may only be counted for the initial offering or presentation of a course or program Full−time faculty may not claim PDHs for teaching done as part of their regular duties For teaching multiply the PDHs earned by 2

Qualifying Activities Authoring Published papers, articles, or books in the registrant’s area of professional practice 5 PDHs will be granted in the biennium in which each publication occurred 10 PDHs will be granted in the biennium in which the paper, article, or book was peer reviewed

Qualifying Activities Participating in professional and technical societies Active participation, officer or committee Maximum of 2 PDHs in any one society in any one year Maximum of 4 PDHs per biennium PDHs are not earned until the end of each year of service is completed.

Qualifying Activities Attainment of a patent Must be relevant to the registrant’s area of professional practice 10 PDHs will be awarded for each patent

PDH Carryover Provision Maximum of 15 PDHs over 30 per biennium Carry over many not be used for Professional conduct/ethics (2 PDH min) Interactive activity (13 PDH min)

Implementation To renew a license by the 7/31/2014 renewal deadline, all licensees must complete 30 PDHs between 8/1/ /31/2014 Does not apply to biennia of first licensure Must be complete prior to renewal or must cease to practice

Record Keeping Activity Date, Activity, Presenter, PDHs, certificate, licensee name Log Forms provided by DSPS in Excel and PDF Not submitted with renewal Affirm completion or requirements Maintain for 3 most recent biennia (6 years) Subject to audit by Professional Engineer Section
