Biology 11 overview this is an academic course that examines the diversity of living things, as products of the process of evolution concepts and vocabulary can be challenging and complex a strong commitment to attendance, study, and periodic review are essential to success in this course
Topics covered 1.Evolution – genetics, selection, adaptation 2.Microbiology – taxonomy, prokaryotes and viruses 3.Plant biology – algae, nonvascular and vascular plants 4.Animal biology – major groups of invertebrates, and chordates 5.Ecology – ecological processes from the level of the population to the biosphere
Biology 11 class format university or college style of presentation you will be provided with skeleton notes and diagrams, you will add to them throughout the class daily instruction will be complemented by laboratories and activities relevant to the current topic
Marking scheme Absences: if you miss a test, you must provide a reason for your absence in the form of a signed and dated note. Only then will you be eligible for the retest. Laboratories Unit tests Homework Quizzes Final exam 0- 10% 50% 0-10% 20%
Late marks assignments will be accepted late, without penalty, until the assignment is marked and returned (one or two weeks) anything outstanding will be assigned a mark of incomplete, and it will then be your responsibility to meet with me and receive a different assignment
Retesting one retest opportunity will be provided for each unit test retest times will be scheduled in advance and it is your responsibility to ensure your own attendance! retest marks will be the final marks for that unit, even if they are lower than the original
