Paramedic  If you have taken the National Registry test since 2007 you do not need to take a written test.  If not, you will need to take the National Registry test.

Written Exam  Computer based exam  NOT designed to trick you  Before scheduling, all FEES must be paid!  Based on DOT-National Standard Curriculum objectives

Scheduling your Written Exam  Call (801)  Secretary will assist you in finding a time and place that is acceptable

PRACTICAL TEST

Practical Test  Use TTG’s as a reference.  Perform all skills  2 Testers -- one is your patient -- the other is documenting  Helpful to VERBALIZE EVERYTHING  Do not substitute for actual performance  Candidate may ask questions to clarify  Equipment will be provided

Registration for Practical Test  Call (801)  Secretary will assist you in scheduling  Administered twice a month on Saturday mornings  Bring identification with you to the test

Rescheduling: If you need to postpone your test:  48 hours in advance  Test teams are assigned based on number testing  If you do not show up, you will have to pay re-test fee to reschedule

EMT-Basic & EMT-I Practical: Two Parts  1 Trauma scenario – 9 minutes  1 Medical Scenarios – 9 minutes

Retesting: If you do not pass the practical test:  You have two more opportunities to pass  Only retest on portion that was not passed  Retest may not be the same, as selection is random!

EMT-IA Practical: Two of the following Three  Mega-Code  Trauma Code  Pediatric Code

Paramedic Practical: Three Parts  Mega-Code  Trauma Code  Pediatric Code

REMEMBER: Contact Medical Control before administering medications or performing invasive procedures! (Utah has no Statewide standing orders)

Some Statistics on Reciprocities:  44.5% passed practical first time  71.3% passed on practical retest Based on the total number of failures:  33.2% Did not pass based on Initial Assessment performance  29.1% Did not pass based on medication administration  16.3% Did not pass based on Focused History performance

Additional Information  Must complete all documents and testing within 120 days  All fees are non-refundable  Certification is for four years
