DMA at LCC Pilot - Summer 2013 Full Implementation - Fall 2013

 Developmental Math  NC statewide developmental math redesign  8, 4 week modules,  20 contact hour modules, 1 credit each  Crosswalk MAT 060 = DMA 010, 020, 030 MAT 070 = DMA 040, 050, MAT 080 = DMA 060, 070, 080  While this is the accepted CW, some of the skills that are prerequisites for your program may have been shifted to another DMA. We strongly recommend you look at the syllabi to see if prerequisites need to be adjusted. What is DMA?

 Currently, we are using ACCUPLACER.  The STAC screen will show which DMA credits a student has.  If the only math/DMA credit on the STAC screen is an NC for MAT 050, it means that the student must begin in DMA 010. How does a student place into a DMA?

 All advisors can register.  Fall/spring, 4 week A, B, C, and D terms  Seated- day DMA’s, one hour, 5 days a week; 4 DMA’s can be completed in a 16 week semester  Seated- evening DMA’s, 2 hrs 40 min, 2 days a week; 3 DMA’s can be completed in a 16 week semester  IN sections each 4 week term; 4 DMA’s can be completed in a 16 week semester Summer terms are 2 hour classes, 2 days a week; 3 DMA’s can be completed in one summer. How does a student register for a DMA?

 Students must pass each DMA with at least 80%.  10% point is during the second hour of the course.  Reteach/retest is available for the final exam in each module.  One book to cover all DMA’s.  All seated classes will be web assisted with online components (all contact hours will be face-to-face).  Final grades are PA or PB = pass, R = re-enroll. DMA Differences

 Smaller portions to master before the exam  Highly structured daily routine  More homogenized course content with all DMA instructors  Ability to immediately retake a nonmastered module  Ability to begin DMA’s at the start of any of the 4 terms DMA Student Benefits

DRE at LCC Full Implementation - Fall 2014

 Developmental Reading and English  NC statewide developmental English/reading combined redesign  3, 8 week fall/spring courses  DRE 096, DRE 097, DRE 098  56 contact hour courses, 3 credits each What is DRE?

 Student must pass with 80%.  All seated classes will be web assisted with online components (5 contact hours will be face-to-face, 2 contact hours will be WB).  Final grades are PA or PB = pass, R = re- enroll. DRE Differences

 For now, only select faculty can register: Levy Brown (906), Maggie Brown (966), Patty Phillips (915), Robbie Rodgers (965), Dominique Marshall (943), Eric Barnes (978), and Jamal McMillion (970). When you are with your advisee, simply call any of these faculty and we will get the DRE registration done over the phone so that you can continue to build the student’s schedule.  Fall/spring, 8 week A and B terms; 5 seated contact, 2 WB contact  Seated- day DRE’s, one hour, 5 days a week; 2 DRE’s can be completed in a 16 week semester  Seated- evening DRE’s, 2 hrs, 2 days a week (4 seated contact, 3 WB contact); 2 DRE’s can be completed in a 16 week semester  IN sections each 8 week term; 2 DRE’s can be completed in a 16 week semester  All sections will have an online labsite companion (not a separate lab course to register for) How does a student register for a DRE?

 VA issues- VA only recognizes currently “active” credits  Beginning fall of 2014, a student will only have up to 4 “active” developmental hours at a time which is only 2 contact hours a day, including one DMA and one DRE; the rest of the student’s schedule would be major specific. Looking ahead at scheduling…

Fall 2014 Term A, Term B, Term C, Term D 8am DMA 010 DMA 020 DMA 030 DMA040 9am DRE 096 DRE 097 While the total for the term so far is 10 hours, only 2 hours with 2 developmental classes are active each day. The rest of the day can be program courses that do not require these prerequisites. Sample Student Schedule
