7th Grade Civics Training Review Florida Statue 1008.22 Discuss the Florida Civics EOC Review the Standards CPALMS and NGSSS Discuss the Civics Benchmark Tests Review the Proposed Pacing Guide and Curriculum Map

Florida Statute 1008.22 (2013) (2012) During the 2012-2013 school year, an end-of-course assessment in civics education shall be administered as a field test at the middle school level. During the 2013-2014 school year, each student’s performance on the statewide, standardized end-of-course assessment in civics education shall constitute 30 percent of the student’s final course grade. Beginning with the 2014-2015 school year, a student must earn a passing score on the end-of-course assessment in civics education in order to pass the course and be promoted from the middle grades. Civics EOC - 2014 Testing Window - April 28 – May 9, 2014 The 2014 EOC will be a baseline administration and will constitute 30% of a student’s grade Standards will be set with the 2015 Civics EOC test. Transition to Next Generation and Computer-Based Tests in Florida

Civics End-of-Course Assessment Test Item Specifications

Civics Standards There are 40 Civics standards covered by the NGSSS. There are 5 standards not covered in the Civics EOC test. SS.7.C.2.3 Experience the responsibilities of citizens at the local, state, or federal levels. SS.7.C.2.6 Simulate the trial process and the role of juries in the administration of justice. SS.7.C.2.7 Conduct a mock election to demonstrate the voting process and its impact on a school, community, or local level. SS.7.C.2.14 Conduct a service project to further the public good. District Civics Benchmark Tests Three benchmark tests were created and will be administered this year. Each test has 47 questions Most students should be able to finish in one class period. Each benchmark is covered at least once on each of the three test.
