Presentation transcript:

To establish the sound foundation for a viable and accountable program that encourages minority youths to enter the fields of engineering, math, science, and technology.

 In 1979, M.S. (Rock) Sanders, who was with the State Department of Public Instruction’s Southeast Regional Education Center in Jacksonville, visited DuPont’s Cape Fear Site to see if there was something education and industry could do together to help minority students.  The DuPont Company was involved in a Corporate level in a national alliance of business, education, and government whose objective was to encourage minority students to pursue careers in engineering.  This organization was called NACME (National Action Council for the Advancement of Minorities in Engineering), and the president of the DuPont Company served as its chairman from 1976 to  In October of 1979, representatives from industry and education met to discuss forming a local organization with the same objectives as NACME and from that meeting, ROCAME was born.
