11 How does a student enroll in Double Up for College? By agreement with an Indiana school corporation/high school Ivy Tech Community College: Ivy Tech ensures the content and rigor of a course; Sets the criteria for faculty members; Determines with the school corporation/high school the terms; Establishes conditions under which a student may be admitted to the program while attending high school; Awards of credit for successful completion of courses. 12 Double Up for College: Advanced Credit for College A student is entitled to credit toward graduation requirements: For each course successfully completed Courses are listed in the statewide Core Transfer Library that are transferable on all campuses of the state educational institutions. Articulation agreements that apply to any campuses of Ivy Tech Community College and draw from liberal arts and the technical, professional and occupational fields are among those eligible for the program. 13 How are Double Up for College courses presented? Based on demand for enrollment, courses might be taught at on-site traditional classrooms, distance learning or a combination of methods at on-campus and off-campus sites. DOUBLE UP FOR COLLEGE

14 High School-based dual credit agreements: High school students can earn up to 15 credit hours for dual credit coursework completed in graded 11 and 12 Simultaneously earning high school and Ivy Tech credit for coursework taught in a secondary school by secondary faculty Dual credit courses must meet the same academic prerequisites that apply to on-campus courses Course syllabi shall be equivalent including textbooks, class assignments, laboratory equipment and examinations High school students taking a dual credit course taught by a high school teacher are not charged tuition DUAL CREDIT

15 All high school based dual credit agreements require: A series of meetings among faculty and administrators to arrange details surrounding course requirements, faculty credentials, professional development, monitoring and evaluation/documentation. DUAL CREDIT All agreements are reviewed for renewal on an annual basis

16 High school faculty credentials for dual credit courses found in the Core Transfer Library require: Master’s degree and 18 semester hours in the subject area being taught Master’s or Bachelor’s degree depending on the technical courses under consideration In technical education courses, an Occupational Specialist’s License may be considered. DUAL CREDIT

17 Ivy Tech-based dual credit agreements: A school corporation may elect to send high school students to an Ivy Tech campus for coursework or may elect to invite Ivy Tech faculty members to teach an Ivy Tech course to high school students at a high school. Tuition is charged for Ivy Tech-based dual credit classes and is paid by the sending school corporation. DUAL CREDIT

18 Fast Track to College Public Law 185 A state higher education institution may establish a high school Fast Track to College program that offers qualified individuals an opportunity to earn an Indiana Department of Education high school diploma through Ivy Tech Community College while earning credit for a degree at Ivy Tech. Ivy Tech Community College’s Response Fast Track to College was launched in Fall, 2007 at all Ivy Tech campuses in support of the legislation and assisting qualified individuals to earn a high school diploma while accumulating credit for a certificate or an associate’s degree. FAST TRACK TO COLLEGE

19 Fast Track Target audiences: 19+ years of age and not enrolled in a school 17+ years of age and has consent of the high school the individual attended most recently FAST TRACK TO COLLEGE

20 General conditions for participation in Fast Track: 19+ and not enrolled in a school must demonstrate the Ability To Benefit (ATB) if financial aid is to be a consideration. Must be eligible for advancement to the 11th grade (generally earned credits, with passing grades in 9th and 10th grade high school required courses) at their most recent high school FAST TRACK TO COLLEGE

21 Do you know a student who… is not achieving to the academic capacity that you know is possible? is distracted by all the “drama” that is part of growing up and attending high school? has chosen to be isolated from social events and extra-curricular activities? has the potential or stated intent to drop out of high school for all the wrong reasons? would benefit from a different environment? is at least 17 years of age and would have the consent of the high school the individual attended most recently? FAST TRACK TO COLLEGE

22 Requirements for Fast Track student still in high school: College-Ready Pre-Collegiate Basic Education Placement in a category and subsequent courses is based on performance on the COMPASS college readiness assessment. FAST TRACK TO COLLEGE

High school transcript review Curricular areas: English; mathematics; life science and/or integrated chemistry/physics; social studies; physical education and health; elective and career development; and career enhancement. Courses are available in a traditional classroom and on-line FAST TRACK TO COLLEGE

24 Requirements (cont.) Must have passed: GQE, or GED, or an examination equivalent to the graduation examination OR an examination that demonstrates the student is ready for college level work. The COMPASS assessment is used by Ivy Tech to satisfy this requirement in the areas of reading, writing and mathematics. FAST TRACK TO COLLEGE
