Simple Tenses The tense of a verb shows the time of the action or state of being. There are three basic tenses: present tense, past tense, and future tense. These are called the simple tenses. Examples: Present TenseWater covers most of the earth’s surface. Past TenseMany changes in the ocean happened over time. Future TenseScientists will study more forms of ocean like in coming years.
