Liisi Voksepp Australian nature  Australian nature is extremely diverse and interesting.  It was almost completely covered in rainforest.  The wildlife in Australia has evolved in isolation.

Liisi Voksepp Australian animals  Bandicoot- small creatures only about the size of a rat and eat small insects and plants.  Bilby- have large ears like rabbits and eat small insects and various plants.  Frilled lizard- The Frilled Lizards frill normally hangs around its neck, and is made out of a flap of skin  Koala- Koalas are small bear like creatures who live along the east coast of Australia

They can grow to about 2 metres long, and can be aggressive, often making a loud hissing sound.  Grey kangaroo- There are two species of Grey Kangaroo, the Western Grey Kangaroo and the Eastern Grey Kangaroo.  Dingo- generally eat mice, rabbits and rats, although can also attack livestock when hungry.  Possum- There are a wide variety of Possums including the Grey Brushtail Possum and the Ringtail Possum

Liisi Voksepp Australian birds  Black cockatoo- The most commonly seen include the Red- Tailed Black Cockatoo and the Yellow-Tailed Cockatoo.  Brolga- Brolgas are large cranes, which grow to about 1 metre tall.  Black Swan- Black Swans can be found around lakes and rivers all over Australia.  Jabiru - The Jabiru is also known as the Black-Necked Stork, and is found in North Eastern parts of Australia.

Liisi Voksepp Australian birds  Kookaburra- Kookaburras belong to the Kingfisher family and can be found in various coastal areas around Australia.  Rainbow Lorikeet- The Rainbow Lorikeet also has a rather unusual brush like tongue, which helps it remove nectar from flowers.  Wedge- Tailed Eagle- Wedge-Tailed Eagles are found mainly in the great Australian Outback, and are the largest bird of prey found in Australia.  Emu- Emus are large flightless birds, which live in various areas around Australia, they grow to about 2 metres tall.

Liisi Voksepp Australian sealife  Dolphins- Dolphins are warm-blooded mammals, which breathe air, and due to their social nature often live in pods of about 15 dolphins.  Fairy penguin- Fairy Penguins are the only type of penguin to breed in Australia, and matching their name they are also the smallest of all the 18 different species of penguin.  Eagle Ray - The Eagle Ray is one of the most attractive Rays, with its shiny blue/black coat covered in white/grey spots.  Barramundi- Barramundi live in the rivers of Far North Australia, and are part of a large fishing industry in Australia.

Liisi Voksepp Australian flora  Acacias- They vary greatly in size although have a distinctive yellow colouring.  Callistemons- The Callistemon is also known as the Bottlebrush, and its brightly coloured petals stem out from the flower like a brush  Melaleucas- The dead peeling bark enables moisture to stay within the trunk, at the same time as protecting the tree from extreme weather conditions  Grevilleas- Grevilleas is a shrub, and 230 of the 250 different species are native to Australia
