Mila Blue Penguin Mrs.Cottrell 3 rd Grade

Appearance It has a blue-gray back-white chin,throat, and front side. It has blue-dark gray flippers. It has curved flippers for swimming fast.

habitat It lives in Australia’s Southern coasts, including Tasmania, and New Zealand. It’s habitat is in a underground burrow, or in the side of a mountain, and might be in a deep rock crevice.

Food and Hunting The blue penguin eats, sea horses, crab larvae, small squid, and small shrimp. It caches its prey by, stabbing it with it’s beak and swallows it in one gulp! Its enemies are, when it is on land its predators are cats, foxes, and dogs. When it’s in water it is the fur seal.

Nesting Behaviors and Raising Young They start courtship between “May and October”. And lay eggs between “June and September”. Each pair lays two white glistening eggs.

Interesting Facts The blue penguin is the smallest penguin in the world! It grows between cm. Its called the fairy penguin due to its small size.
