PENGUIN CLASS Newsletter June 2011

To the parents: School year is over. We all worked hard this year! The students all enjoyed the experiences that were new to them. Thank you for all the support you gave the school. We were able to reach the targets and expectations for their age. I look forward to our dear children’s further developments.

Year-end Performances Thank you for coming to our year-end performance last month! The children were all inspired when they saw how you cheered for them. They love doing The Ants and The Grasshoppers and the songs as well. Since this will be my last newsletter, I have attached the story of the Ants and the Grasshoppers in case your child wants to listen to it again. I also have included the songs and the lyrics too. See you all next year!

ONE hot summer’s day, a Grasshopper sat under a shady tree and sang loudly, much to the annoyance of some Ants who were carrying food to their home in preparation for the impending winter. Several weeks later, the Grasshopper realised that the cold season was approaching, for the ground was barren. The hungry sluggard decided to ask the Ants for food. When he reached the formicary, he knocked weakly on the door. An Ant opened the door. “Why, it’s you, Grasshopper,” she said “Please give me something to eat,” the teary orthopterous creature said. “I want to make old bones.” “While we were breaking our backs storing food for the next few months, you were singing,” the Ant said, laughing mockingly. “And now you expect us to feed you. Can you beat that!” The Ants held a council to debate the Grasshopper’s plea. They eventually decided, by a show of antennae, to invite the Grasshopper to share their food, but he had to do their household chores for three consecutive days. The Grasshopper ate like a horse. “Thanks a lot,” he said to his benefactors. “It is very big of you to satisfy my hunger. I’m going to take a leaf out of your book and become an industrious insect.” (

I’d Like to Teach the world to sing I’d like to build the world a home, and furnish it with love. Grow apple trees and honey bees and snow white turtle doves. I’d like to teach the world to sing, in perfect harmony. I’d like to hold it in my arms and keep it company. That’ s the song I hear, let the world sing today. And build them echo through the hills for peace throughout the land. A song of peace that echoes on, and never goes away.
