The canvas to an artist is what my personal beliefs and ideas are to me in teaching – a firm foundation (McBratney, 1994)
The preparation of a surface for an artist is what my planning & my learning are to me in teaching – an undercoat, allowing thoroughness through preparation
The artists’ brushes are what the scaffolding is to me in teaching – teaching tools (Allen, 1989 )
The artists’ freshly squeezed paint is what the different learning styles are to me in teaching – all individual, rich, vibrant and ready be used/ learn
The artists’ ability to decipher what, where, how & when in colours and application of the paint is what my planning & my learning are to me in teaching – a deep understanding and knowledge
The artist’s mixing of the paint to create new colours is what the combining of different learning styles to create new experiences is to me as a teacher – the students within the classroom.
The artist’s application of the paint is what my teaching is to me in teaching – thought into every stroke to give life and learning
The artist standing back to gain perspective of their overall work is what assessing of students is to me in teaching – are we all heading in the right direction
The artists’ second coat is to me in teaching when I guide, lead and motivate the students on further – all is well covered, motivation is high in seeing progress
The artist adding texture, fine detail is what my communicating to others outside the classroom, is to me in teaching – defining the learning through clarification
The artists’ framing of their work is what preparing students for their next year is to me in teaching – enhanced, ready to move forward
The artists’ exhibiting and selling of the painting is what my final teaching and farewell to those learners, is to me in teaching - completion (McBratney,1994)
