To help Parents and Student-Athletes understand the Recruiting process for college athletics To help Parents and Student-Athletes understand the NCAA Initial Eligibility Clearinghouse requirements and process Give students a timeline of suggested activity

Recommendation by Coach Self-Recommendation AAU, Travel, Select Teams, etc Academic Evaluation Athletic Evaluation NCAA Rules, Guidelines, Etc.

Divisions of College Athletics

DIVISION I Major College( Divided into FCS and BCS for Football) Highest Academic Standards Sliding Scale with SAT/ACT Scores Higher number of Scholarships Examples: UNC-Ch, Notre Dame, Appalachian State

Division II Smaller Colleges/Universities Academic Requirements are Slightly lower Reduced number of scholarships Work through Financial aid, scholarships, etc. to create package for athletes Examples: Wingate, JCSU, Belmont- Abbey, UNC-P, ECSU

Division III Non Scholarship If a Student is admitted they are eligible Work entirely through financial aid and academic scholarship Examples: Greensboro College, Methodist

NCAA Clearinghouse The Initial Eligibility Clearinghouse is an independent company that evaluates a schools’ list of Core Courses and evaluates a students transcript to determine if they meet the initial eligibility standards at a Div. I or Div. II school Registration Fee/Waivers Registration by end of Junior Year

Core Requirements Division I 16 Core Courses: WORKSHEETWORKSHEET 4 years of English. 3 years of mathematics (Algebra I or higher). 2 years of natural/physical science (1 year of lab if offered by high school). 1 year of additional English, mathematics or natural/physical science. 2 years of social science. 4 years of additional courses (from any area above, foreign language or nondoctrinal religion/philosophy). PLUS SAT/ACT Requirement on the Sliding Scale

Minimum Score of 820 on SAT

Core Courses(Formerly 48H) Courses that the school deems to be college prep that may be used in determining Eligibility High School Core Courses

Other Options NAIA...National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Junior College…Partial, Non and Qualifiers Prep School/Post Grad Programs

Timeline Register with NCAA Clearinghouse Junior year Meet with high school coach about expectations of recruiting Take SAT/ACT Spring of Junior Year Figure Core GPA Take Sat/ACT Fall of Senior Year and as Necessary Adjust Senior year schedule and do as well as possible
