Asking for help when we feel upset A Social Narrative

Everybody get upset sometimes. It is okay to feel upset. Kids feel upset, even teachers and adults feel upset.

This is a story about what to do when you feel upset at school.

What are some reasons you may get upset at school?

1. Sometimes you have to stop doing something you like. 2. Maybe you don’t understand what you are asked to do. 3. Sometimes people say or do something you don’t like.

Here are some ideas about what to do if you get upset at school.

First, think about what is upsetting you.

Second, think to yourself…”Is there something I can do to make it better?”

Third, if you still are not sure what to do…Raise your hand and look toward Ms. xxx.

Fourth, when Ms. xxx calls on you explain why you‘re upset with words like these...

"Ms. xxx I feel upset because..." (tell her what you thought of).

Fifth, t ogether with Ms. xxx decide what can be done to help you feel better.

Finally, thank Ms. xxx for her help.

When we follow these steps at school we can start to feel better and make Ms. xxx happy too!

Now it is time to get back to work!
