She didn’t communicate with her brother for 15 years. Talk or write a letter- or - call J. Please don’t read this journal. It’s private. personal

For many people all over the world, is the best way of communicating quickly, cheaply, and easily. Because it is so fast and easy, it is also very easy to miss communicate. To send clear, easy –to- understand s, follow these basic rules of use-called network etiquette, or’ netiquette.’ Netiquette Do’s 1 ) Keep your s short. Separate your ideas into different paragraphs. Some people receive hundreds of s a day. They hate reading through long messages. They want to receive short, easy - to-read messages.

2 )Check your message before you send it. Make sure it says what you want it to say. Remember that you are writing, not talking. For example, how can show in writing that your are joking? One way is to use ‘emotions’. These are pictures made with punctuation marks, like ) :). The colon is the two eyes and the parenthesis is the mouth. 3 ) Check your spelling. There is no reason for poor spelling. Even in . 4 ) Fill in the subject for each . This helps people organize s and find old ones. 5 Also, if someone has hundreds of s to read, he or she might not read one without a subject, just to save time

5 ) Include your ‘signature’ at the end of every message. Every message should include your signature because it is not always clear who sent and . An signature includes your full name, address, and often you ‘ snail mail’ or street address and telephone number.

6 ) Don’t use all capital letters. This is the same as SHOUTING. It is rude. 7. ) Don’t send every one a copy when you only want to send a message to one person. Often we are sent messaged as a cc ( carbon copy- the old word for a copy of a letter). When we reply to these messages, we have to be very careful to reply Only to the person we want to read our message. 8 ) Don’t send s when you are angry or upset. These messages are called’ flames’. Wait until you are calm to reply. Also, don’t send e- mails that will get you flamed. Be polite and try not make anyone angry or upset.

9 : ) Don’t think is private. E mail is written communication. Never write something in an that you wouldn’t say in public. There are a lot of things to think about when writing , but following these rules will help you to communicate clearly. Happy e- mailing.

E – mail. Everyone’s doing it. It’s so fast. It’s made communicating with each other so easy. But there’s dark side to . Recently, I’ve received a lot of letters from people in big trouble caused by the e- mail ‘ blooper’ ( mistake). Read on to see what kinds of trouble the blooper can make. Dear Debbie, Help! Last week, I received an message from my best friend at work. It was a general message about the holiday party sent to the whole company.

I wrote back to my friend saying that I wasn’t going the party. Then, I went on to tell her how much I hated working at this company. I told her how I thought my other co-workers were stupid and boring. I explained how I thought our boss was not nice and treated us all badly. I meant to hit the Reply button to send my friend the . Instead, I hit the the Reply all button which sent the message to my best friend, all ten co-workers, and my boss! Everything I wrote in the is true. But I would never say those things to my boss or other co-workers. I was so embarrassed, I took a few days off from work pretending

to be sick. I just couldn’t face all these people. But I have to go back to work soon. What do I say to them? Dear Debbie, What can I do? Recently, a longtime friend made me very upset. We live far apart, so I wanted to write a very organized, thoughtful explaining how I felt, I planned to write two drafts of the . In my first draft, I just wrote everything I was feeling. I was very angry, and at that moment, I felt that everything about her and our friendship was wrong. I wrote all this in the message.

I then saved the and went on to other things, planning to rewrite it later, when I was less upset. You can see what’s coming. Somehow, when working on another . I clicked SEND and accidentally ( by mistake) sent this first draft of the to my friend. Of course, she is now so angry. She thinks I’m a terrible friend to send such a message to her. What can I say to her? Dear Debbie,] My wife and I are having an argument. We share a computer and the other day she was

She was looking in the ‘trash’ for an old file she had thrown out. While she was looking around for her lost file, she found all these s of mine sent to an old friend. You see, my wife is not happy about me keeping in touch with this woman. So, I’ve been secretly e- mailing her for years. It’s nothing really. But because I know it would make my wife mad, I’ve been careful to deleting the messages. Well, I thought I was deleting the messages. I guess they were just sent to the ‘trash’. I didn’t know I had to ‘empty the

Trash ‘ to really get rid of them. Anyway, my wife read them and is now really mad at me. She says I should apologize for writing to this woman. I say I haven’t done anything wrong. In fact, I think she should apologize for reading s not sent to her. Who’s right?
