Laney High School STEM Program Overview
Designed for highly motivated students interested in the following areas: -Science -Technology -Engineering -Math -Medical/Biomedical Program Information
-Produce motivated students interested in attending college for STEM related fields and eventually pursuing a career in a STEM field. - Build your high school resume. -Meet the growing demands of STEM related careers in our country. Some Program Goals
Two cohorts: Engineering or Biomedical -Max 30 students in each. Program Requirements: -Students must participate all four years of high school. -Receive STEM endorsement on their diploma. -Maintain a 3.0 GPA throughout grades
Requirements cont. -Students must be an active member of a STEM related club at Laney or off campus. (ex. Science Olympiad, Science Fair, Math Counts,HOSA, etc) -Complete service learning hours each year related to STEM areas.
-Complete an internship/job shadowing before graduation. (can be combined with graduation project) -Attend freshmen STEM orientation before freshmen year. -Students must take a 4 STEM course concentration before graduation. Requirements cont.
-Contests -Guest speakers from related industries -College visits -Summer STEM Enrichment Programs -Business tours -Lunch and Learn Sessions Student Activities
-Will be available online on Laney STEM webpage. -Eighth grade counselors will have copies available. -Will be available before Spring break. The last week of March. -Will be due the end of April. Applications
