DIGITAL SNOW DAY POLICY

Digital Learning Day Policy Assumption will begin implementing a digital learning day policy on snow days during second semester. Like other grade schools and high schools in the Archdiocese, we may use up to 5 digital learning days during a school year. This presentation will answer your questions about how these will work.

Digital Learning Day Policy Q. Will every snow day always be a Digital Learning Day from now on? A. We can only take 5 per school year. A Digital Learning Day at AHS will be specifically declared at the time the PowerAlert is sent noting school is not in session. In the event of heavy icing, etc that would cause wide power outages, a digital learning day will not be declared. Decisions will be made based upon the most up-to-date information that we have at the time.

Digital Learning Day Policy – Student and Teacher Responsibility Q. What do I need to do on a Digital Learning Day? A. There will be several steps that you need to follow. We will go over them now. Step 1: First, you need to confirm your attendance for the day. Your deans of studies, Mrs. Schuhmann (freshmen/sophomores) and Mrs. Fieldhouse (juniors/seniors), will send their classes a survey to respond to. Students must respond indicating that they are in attendance for the day or, if they are ill, that they will not be in attendance. Absences will be added to student’s cumulative total for the year.

Digital Learning Day Policy – Student and Teacher Responsibility Q. What do I need to do on a Digital Learning Day? A. Step 2: Teachers for that day’s classes will post lesson plans on their Fusion Pages by 10:30 a.m. Students will need to check each of their scheduled classes’ School Fusion pages for the lesson plan for the day and complete the lesson plan

Digital Learning Day Policy – Student and Teacher Responsibility Q. What will lessons be like on digital learning days and how long should I plan to spend on each one? A. Each lesson should be about 1 hour in length so you should budget 3-4 hours depending on whether or not you have study on that school day. Each teacher’s lesson will have A stated objective for the class that day Lesson agenda and clear student instructions Product/assignment to be completed. These assignments must be completed by the next class meeting.

Digital Learning Day Policy – Student and Teacher Responsibility, con’t Q. What if I need clarification/help or have questions for my teachers? A. All teachers will have office hours during the course of the digital learning day and will clearly note those times in the lesson plan. Those office hours will be 90 minutes total. This can be : a combination of half hour increments where teachers will be immediately available or a time frame during which they will be checking periodically.

Digital Learning Day Policy – Student and Teacher Responsibility, con’t Q. What if I sleep until 1 p.m. and miss my teacher’s office hours? A. It is a school day and students are expected to be responsible for this. Teachers will have information available by 10:30 a.m. and students should plan to check School Fusion at that time. Students should respond to their dean by noon to be counted present for the day.

Digital Learning Day Policy – Student and Teacher Responsibility, con’t Q. What if I don’t have books or materials that the teacher wants us to use? A. We all need to plan ahead when snow is in the weather forecast. If there is a possibility of snow, take your books for the next day home! Keep in mind that most of the time you will have another day’s time to finish assignments if needed.

Digital Learning Day Policy – Student and Teacher Responsibility, con’t Q. If I don’t have materials I need, can I share with a friend? A. If a friend will let you borrow resources, that is fine. But as always, in a school where integrity matters, unless the work is assigned as partner or group work, you must complete it individually.

Digital Learning Day Policy Q. What if it is a Digital Learning Day because most people have power but my house doesn’t and/or we don’t have Internet access at my house? A. You will need to notify your Dean of Studies, Mrs. Schuhmann (Freshmen/Sophomores) or Mrs. Fieldhouse (Juniors/Seniors) as soon as possible. Each situation will be run on a case by case basis.

Each situation will be handled on a case by case basis.

Digital Learning Day Policy Q. What if we are on retreat or on a school trip on a digital learning day? A. You will be responsible for the Digital Learning Day work as you would have been for the work that you missed but you will not be counted absent but as on a school-related function.

Digital Learning Day Policy Q. What if we have a prearranged event (trip/school event/college visit/etc) on February 16th? A. Please have your parent Mrs. Baughman with the details of this event and she will approve your absence. You will still be responsible to have the work complete by Thursday, February 19 th.

Digital Learning Day Policy Please have your Family Room teacher your Family Room’s questions to Mrs. Schuhmann and Mrs. Fieldhouse. We will answer common ones via Student SharePoint and/or announcements as appropriate.
