Subsea Production Assurance A new generation of Smart Qualified Subsea Flow Assurance Integrity Monitoring Tools

The flow assurance integrity challenge Deeper water/remote reservoirs –hotter, higher pressure, corrosive, hydrate susceptibility, sand producing and stranded, remote with prohibitive intervention costs Longer tiebacks and multiphase transportation –corrosion and scale –plugging (hydrate precipitation and organic solids formation due to thermal/hydraulic profiles) –sand erosion damage and accumulation

…the challenge Brownfield decline and increased high risk marginal fields Commingling of unprocessed well streams can lead to increased risk of fluids incompatibility and raises partner/joint venture issues in sharing infrastructure Environmental and H&S regulatory – increasing governmental constraints

The Smart digital oil field New technologies destined to transform the offshore industry 4D seismic, smart wells, intelligent completions high bandwidth HTHP deepwater qualified seamless integration of S3-Monitoring and modeling M2 remote 3D virtual visualization

Subsea flow assurance integrity monitoring technology Sub-surface monitoring – downhole PT Wellhead – MPFM, Pressure Temperature Transmitters, Sand Probe, Choke Bridge Condition Monitor Flow-lines, manifold, risers – Pressure temperature, Corrosion Probe, Flow Assurance Probe/Spool

Sand Management - Probes Intrusive sand erosion with P & T only Intrusive direct erosion measurement with intrusive acoustic for sand rate, mass flow with P and T Non-intrusive acoustic for sand rate only

Sand management – modelling and prediction Integrated sensor detects sand impacts through acoustics and directly correlate with erosion, flow force with P&T Model sand flow regime and characterise well and risk to system Model sand accumulation through the network

Choke bridge condition monitoring Sand erosion sand rate, pressure and temperature Detects preferential flow at exit from choke valve Integrated into one module to SCM

Pipeline integrity management - Corrosion monitoring spools On-line inspection tool - FSM 0.1% wall thickness Real-time monitoring tool RPCM™ 0.005% wall thickness complete with pressure and circumferential temperature profile Locations subsea flowlines & pipelines

Flow Assurance Integrity management – single point sensor Integrated multi-array subsea sensor measures metal loss (CEION  ), P&T, mass flow force, acoustics (sand or hydrates), solution conductivity and heat transfer Applications include Hydrate precipitation and formation detection Organic solids deposition detection Scale detection Under deposit corrosion measurement Erosion-corrosion-sand correlation

Flow Assurance Integrity management – spool piece Integrated multi-array spool piece sensor measures metal loss (CEION  RPCM™), differential pressure, circumferential temperature, acoustics (sand or hydrates), solution conductivity and heat transfer Applications include Corrosivity profile and under deposit localised corrosion measurement Erosion-corrosion-sand correlation Hydrate, Organic solids deposition and Scale detection Slug flow and liquid hold-up

Flow assurance integrity modelling and simulation Flow assurance integrity modelling ensures technical, operational and HSE integrity during design and operation of production systems throughout the entire life cycle. This results in overall capital and operating cost effectiveness. Successful design and operation of multiphase production systems rely on detailed understanding of flow behaviour

The Impact of Flow Assurance Integrity Technologies Integrated subsea real-time Flow Assurance Integrity monitoring correlated with modelled simulations evolve optimized intervention strategies enable RISK to be managed with Accelerated production and improved ultimate recovery Longer tiebacks - increased flow assurance integrity and reduced capex Economically viable developments Proactive intervention/maintenance - reduced opex
