California Department of Aging Participant Staff Training SENIOR COMMUNITY SERVICE EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM (SCSEP) INDIVIDUAL EMPLOYMENT PLAN (IEP)

 IEP is the roadmap to success  Use the SMART principle when writing IEPs  Get the participants “buy-in” to their IEP  Regulations  Effect on projects OVERVIEW

 Gives the participant a plan for using the program successfully  Creates benchmarks and completion dates for the participant to achieve  Builds self-confidence and esteem in the participant  Provides the project with a guide for effectively assisting the participant THE IEP IS THE ROADMAP TO SUCCESS

THE IEP AS A ROAD MAP TO SUCCESS The IEP should start with an achievable first step or goal that the participant can do.

THE IEP AS A ROAD MAP TO SUCCESS An IEP will have several action steps identified: Basic Education Skills Training Supportive Services Job Search when Participant is ready

THE IEP AS A ROAD MAP TO SUCCESS  The IEP documents expectations, benchmarks, and timelines for the journey..Timelines allow the participant to know when an activity should be completed.

THE IEP AS A ROAD MAP TO SUCCESS IEP tracking allows the project staff to monitor and address barriers encountered by the participant.

 S is for Specific  M is for Measurable  A is for Attainable  R is for Relevant  T is for Time Driven USE THE SMART PRINCIPLE WHEN WRITING THE IEP

GET THE PARTICIPANT’S “BUY-IN”  The IEP is a negotiated agreement  Participants are expected to participate in the development their IEP  Projects are encouraged to get the participant to “buy into it,”  The case manager and the participant should sign the IEP

 Updating the IEP as necessary to reflect information gathered during subsequent participant assessments. IEP DOL REGULATIONS

 The IEP helps to increase the number of unsubsidized placements  The IEP helps the project meet performance goals  The IEP allows the program to serve more participants with limited funds IEPs Effect on the Project
