An Innovation Doesn’t Stand Still Native Star was born in SY for BIE schools – required SIG schools; optional for all other schools In SY , all BIE schools were required to use. In SY , 98% of all BIE schools use some aspects of the Native Star system.

An Innovation Doesn’t Stand Still Jan – Native Star Special Education Working Group formed. July 2013 – 99 Rapid Improvement Indicators selected for schools to assess and plan to improve outcomes for students with disabilities. Native Star SY Dashboard includes the Consolidated SW Budget Planning Template for all Programs, LSPP, FASA, CEIS, and Part B Spending Plan.

An Innovation Doesn’t Stand Still Aug. 2013, ESEA Programs, Special Education Programs, SIG Programs, and Early Childhood Programs plan the Integrated Accountability & Supports Monitoring Process Oct. 2013, IA&S Team conducts on-site verification at one of 20 schools to be part of the pilot.

What gets monitored gets done. Schools were submitting their reports for compliance. Our data indicated that outcomes for students weren’t much better. Our coaching sessions had turned into discussion of due dates for reports and technical issues.

Integrated Accountability & Support Bureau of Indian Education’s Pilot of New Monitoring Process  Next generation of differentiated recognition, accountability and support system (also referred to as the SRAS)  Goal: Raising academic outcomes for ALL students through continuous improvement  Integrated monitoring processes to include: Elementary & Secondary Education Act (ESEA) Title Programs Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) Programs Early Childhood Programs (FACE, IDEA Part B & C) Applicable ESEA Discretionary Program – 21 st CCLC & McKinney-Vento

Integrated Accountability & Support Focus on foundational supports for continuous school improvement:  Shared Leadership & Decision Making Using Data  Curriculum, Assessment, and Instructional Planning  Highly Effective School Staff  Family and Community Engagement  Coordination and Integration of Education Resources

Integrated Accountability & Support Purpose: To assess the degree to which strong systematic approaches are in place that move a whole school forward to dramatically change the way it operates to improve student learning outcomes.
