Read the passage. Look for the main idea of each paragraph. We know the flag stands for our country. But why are there stars and stripes on our flag? Why is it red, white, and blue? What do the colors and shapes mean? Each color on our flag has a meaning. Red stands for being brave and strong. White stands for doing what is right. It also means saying what is true. Blue stands for being fair. It also means working hard. There are thirteen stripes on our flag. They stand for the first thirteen states. Our first flag had thirteen stars on it, too. A woman named Betsy Ross sewed it over 200 years ago. Since the, a star has been added for each state that joins the country. There are now 50 stars on our flag. Each state has its own star. All the stars stand together. This shows that we are all joined to love and protect our country.
