Background of Darfur  Conflict has been on-going in Darfur. This has led to mass movements of people, destruction of community buildings, and harm to natural resources  In South Darfur, almost half of all children who should be in school, aren’t  This is because of destructed schools, or no schools close to where kids live, or even because of lack of teachers

 Increase access to quality education for school-going age children (boys & girls) in the Umzeifa and Sukar Shataet areas of Nyala in South Darfur state by 2013  Construct 3 basic schools-1 Boys School & 1 Girls school in Umziefa and 1 Boys school in Alresheed (Nyala)  Equip the 3 schools with teaching and learning material  Provide girls with uniforms, text books, furniture etc.  Train teachers, PTA members and Child Welfare Services committees (CWSC)  Provide a solar system lightening unit to Umziefa girls school

Grade 6 girls in a traditional classroom since the WV school cannot accommodate all the girls following increased enrolment in the school. When it starts to rain the girls will automatically have to be released from school for the day and this highly compromise their learning. 21/01/2012

Umzeifa Girls School Drinking water facility constructed – Water is collected & stored in these traditional containers for the students since there is no pipe borne water system in the community. This will prevent the student traveling long distances to look for drinking water during lunch breaks as is the case in many traditional schools in Sudan and many other developing countries

All the girls in the community of school going age are scrambling to enroll in the school. Unfortunately the school is not able to accommodate the already 407 students enrolled in the first year. This means the administration will continue to accommodate the rest of the girls in the traditional classrooms. Canadian students have made a huge impact on this community.”
