Presentation transcript:

Warm-up During the early part of the 1994 baseball season, many sports fans and baseball players noticed that the number of home runs being hit seemed to be unusually large. Here are the data on the number of home runs hit by American and National League teams: American League:35, 40, 43, 49, 51, 54, 57, 58, 58, 64, 68, 68, 75, 77 National League: 29, 31, 42, 46, 47, 48, 48, 53, 55, 55, 55, 63, 63, 67 (a)Construct a parallel box plot for the number of homeruns for both teams. (b) Are there any outliers? Make sure you justify your outlier numerically. (c) Compare the distribution of both teams.

As long as I am not giving directions or going Restroom Procedures As long as I am not giving directions or going over new material you may ask to go to the restroom. 2) Raise your hand and ask permission to go to the restroom. 3) Take a pass with you. If one is not there, wait until someone comes back.

2.3 E #44 and 45 Answers 44) 45)a. First period 30 x 75 = 2250 Second period 22 x 70 = + 1540 3790/52 = 72.88 b. You can not find the median because all the scores are not listed, so you can not put them in order.

Find the 5 Number Summary and Create the box and whisker plot 19, 22, 23, 23, 23, 26, 26, 27, 28, 29, 29, 31, 32 Without the calculator how would you find the 5 number summary and create the box plot? How would you do the same steps with the calculator?

Most Common mistakes from test. 4e and 6d In her promotional practices, a queen ant has been accused of discriminating against ants with short antennae. During the preceding year, six workers were up for promotion. Four of them, with antenna lengths (in mm) of 65, 71, 72, and 73, were promoted. Two workers, with antenna lengths of 63 and 68, were bypassed for promotion. a. – d. List all the possible combination of antennae lengths and find averages, how likely is it to get an average of 65.5 or less? e. Is the evidence of antenna length discrimination relatively strong or relatively weak? Justify your conclusion.

The other most common mistake from the test: 6d 6. Refer to the situation described in Question 4: In the preceding year, six workers were up for promotion. Four of them, with antenna lengths (in mm) of 65, 71, 72, and 73, were promoted. Two workers, with antenna lengths of 63 and 68, were bypassed for promotion. a. List all possible pairs of antenna lengths for workers who might have been bypassed for promotion. …d. Is the evidence of antenna length discrimination relatively strong or relatively weak? Justify your conclusion. On pg 16 under Discussion of Logic of Inference: 0.05 is considered unlikely and in a typical court case, there would have to be a probability of 0.25 or less for it to be considered a discrimination.

When describing distribution think: SOCS Shape: Outliers: Center: Spread:

Tips for Free- response question on the AP Exam. Read all parts a) - ? before answering. Write legibly! People have to read your work. Use good English, write complete sentences, and organize your solutions. Answer all problems with the correct units and with a sentence, even when an explanation is not required. 5. Simplify algebraic or numeric expressions in final answers. 6. If you write the formula, be sure to include the numbers you substituted into the formula.

Histogram Worksheet Directions On a piece of paper answer all questions quietly by yourself. This is individual work for the first 5 – 10 minutes. 2. Wait until everyone at your table answers all the questions. 3. Once everyone at your table finishes, discuss each of the answers, the wording and accuracy. 4. Turn in one sheet to represent the consensus of the group. (This sheet will be graded for Participation)
