Industry has exploded over the past few years –Technology improvements have led to efficiency improvements in turbines 2008 installations brought cumulative installed capacity in US to 25,170 MW –US now world leader in wind power installed capacity 8,300 MW installed in 2008 –Accounts for 42% of new capacity installations 4,000 MW installed in 1 st half of 2009 Credit crunch hit wind industry too –Changes in subsidies looking to get projects moving Wind Industry – National View

Green Jobs: Wind Energy What does a 20% wind scenario bring? Wind industry added 35,000 jobs in 2008 –Total direct industry employment at 85,000 7,000 jobs expected in OK over next 5 years Industry jobs will be direct, indirect, and induced Direct – Wind technicians, landmen, manufacturing, consultants, etc. Indirect – Electric linemen, planning management, etc. Induced – Bank tellers, grocery workers, hotel operators, etc.

Oklahoma’s Efforts GrowOklahoma.com, an online resource sponsored by the Governor’s Council for Workforce and Economic Development that helps Oklahomans explore potential careers, plan their education, find jobs, and start businesses. Youth Outreach to Help Create a Workforce Pipeline for Oklahoma’s Green Economy Governor’s Council for Workforce & Economic Development outreach program to recruit 12 to 18 year olds into the field of engineering; video detailing the opportunities for this age group will be released later this year. Project Boomerang – –targets select, skilled talent with ties to Oklahoma but who live out of state. We call them “Elsewhere Oklahomans.” –Targets include engineers, accountants, management executives, and others.
