GRADING IN MOODLE Saint James School of Medicine Prepared - Oscar Andrade - Faculty training 2014

General Guidelines Students should see grades of items Grading can be based on points or percentages Weighted mean of grades – allows the most flexible method Any grade item can be hidden if unneeded Grades may be entered by Teacher or by Moodle

Start by clicking on Grades under administration

Grader report shows students in the course and at the start, there is no grade info and Course Total is empty.

In this example, all grades will be entered by Teacher.

The screen shows categories and items that can be graded

In the pull down menu, select “weighted mean of grades” Weighted means that you can assign a percentage (weight) to each grading item.

We will “add a grade item” Block Exam 1 You will always click this button to add any items to be graded Assignments given through Moodle will appear here automatically

Type a name here for the grade item, the other options can be skipped.

Now there is one exam and the weight is 1.0 (100%)

Now after adding the 4 block exams and two quizzes.

Select Grader Report

After selecting the Grader report, we can enter the grades Grades are added in the “Grader report”

After adding the grades

Go back to simple view to enter weights for “Course Total” All weights must add up to 1.

We would like this grading: two Quiz are 20%, 4 Block Exam s are 80% All Grading items must add up to 100% or 1.

Select “Grader Report” after click of “Save Changes”
