 Doodle 4 Google is a competition open to K- 12 students of U.S. schools to create their own Google doodle.

 Doodles are meant to surprise and delight people when they visit the Google homepage. Who better to surprise and delight than talented and creative young artists! Google would not exist today if it weren’t for creativity, passion, and imagination so we love to celebrate and promote these values in our younger users.

 On a HALF sheet of paper  Step 1 - List 6-10 ideas of problems, within your own life or the world, that you would like to solve.  10 Minuets to complete

 The National Winner will have:  his or her doodle featured on the U.S. Google.com homepage.  be awarded a $30,000 college scholarship to used at the school of his or her choice  a trip to the Google Headquarters in California for the final awards ceremony on May 21st, 2014  a Google Chromebook computer  an Android tablet, and a t-shirt printed with his or her doodle on it.  We’ll also award the winner’s full-time school with a $50,000 Google for Education grant towards the establishment/improvement of a computer lab or technology program with Chromebooks for Education and/or tablets with Google Play for Education

 Each of the other four National Finalists will win a $5,000 college scholarship to be used at the school of their choice  a trip to the Google Headquarters in California for the final awards ceremony on May 21st, 2014  an Android tablet  and a t-shirt printed with his or her doodle on it.

 Each of the 250 State Finalists will receive an official winner’s certificate and their Doodles will be featured on the Doodle 4 Google website.

 Step 2 - On the back of list sheet pick 3 of your ideas to: ▪ Articulate (Write sentences, words, phrases) what the invention might look like or how it could be solved ▪ OR Sketch (Draw, visulally depict, images) of what the invention you would create looks like, moves, functions to solve the problem purposed  20 Minuets

 To narrow the entries down to the top 50 State Winners, eligible doodles are judged by Google employees and our “Guest Judges” against the following criteria:  Artistic merit: based on grade group and artistic skill  Creativity: based on the representation of the theme and use of the Google logo  Theme communication: how well the theme is expressed  Appropriateness of the supporting statement

 At your Table discuss and list & describe on a half sheet of newsprint inventions that could make the world a better place/ Solve a problem?  Be creative, outlandish, thoughtful, think outside the box.  (clean air, better human health, world peace…)  10 Minuets to Complete

 Using the newspaper at your table.  Step 1: Divide your paper into 8 sections on each side of paper & Number each section.  Step 2: Fill each box with a sketch of a possible idea for your google doodle that relates to this years theme.  Remaining of class time to Complete.
