Students will understand their animals ’ habitat and how they survive. This is a group project. INTRODUCTION You are invited to take an underwater adventure! There are hundreds of animals in the ocean. Knowing about their food, habitat, and movement can help us care for and protect our ocean life. Individual Work : This is to be done by the Student. Task 1: Each student is to research an ocean animal.  Tell me what your animal needs to survive.  What do they eat?  How do they move?  How does it get around?  Remember to use the worksheet that is required for the power point. Task 2: Each member will need to find information about where the animal can be located. Group Work: This is to be done as a group. The teacher will group each student according to their specific animal that they have chosen. (Example: Crab,Lobster, Starfish, and Clams.) Task 3: Once all of you have research your animal you need to create a slide show / power point with your information together as a group. Task 4: You will then present your power point and talk about each animal as a group. Students will understand their animals’ habitat and how they survive. This is a group project. Each student will pick a animal that is teacher approved. Teacher Introduction This Web Quest was designed to guide students in researching ocean animals. The web quest was created for 1st graders, but it can be used with older students. I wanted students to use technology and different resources to put together a presentation about an ocean animal of their choice. I wanted students to be aware of how important our oceans are for the animals that live in them. After completing the task students will acquire more knowledge about ocean life through their research and classmate's presentations. Learners The Web Quest was created for 9th grader to use. It can be used by any grade level. Younger students will have guidance in creating their power point. Ninth grader and older students will be able to create and research on their own, depending on their computer skills. Standards. Science Standards: Life science 2a, 2b, 2c, Investigation and Experimentation, 4a Teacher Process The teacher needs to prepare students for the Web Quest by introducing the topic. Students should be familiar with computers and PowerPoint before attempting the task. The teacher will group them according to similar ocean animals that the students choose. This is the were the group work begins. Students need to be given questions to answer while they research their ocean animal. As individual work. The teacher needs to set expectations for presentation. Resources To help your students complete the Web Quest you will need access to a computer lab. Make sure the needed program is provided. You should do this Web Quest after you have introduced PowerPoint to your students. They do not have to get fancy, make it simple. The research on their ocean animal can be sent home for them to do. Send home guidelines for parents and where they should look for information. Give students a week to work on their research. A worksheet with questions needs to be sent home for their research. Decide what you would like to focus on before writing your questions. To help students decide which ocean animal they will research you will need to spend a week talking about different animals and our oceans. You will need books, videos, and visuals to get student motivated for the following week. When students are ready to present make sure you have enough time for presentations.
