Comparative Endings

What are comparative endings? They are endings for words when you compare two or more things – er est bigger biggest

Add er to a word when you are comparing two things. The cat is smaller than the dog. Add est to a word when you are comparing three or more things. That is the biggest cat I have ever seen.

Comparative Endings: -er and –est Remember to say the base word and then add the ending shorter shortest

Sometimes the final consonant is doubled before -er or –est is added. sadder saddest

If the base word ends in y, change the y to an i before adding –er or -est happier happiest
