Indefinite Articles in the Negative  When you are using indefinite articles (un, une or des) and are speaking in the negative, your articles turn to DE or D’.  Ex: J’ai un stylo. Je n’ai pas de stylo.  Ex: Nous avons un ordinateur. Nous n’avons pas d’ordinateur.  Exception: DO NOT follow this rule when using the verb “être.” Ce n’est pas un stylo.
