2013 CCSA Injury Reduction Program

Injury Reduction Program Does your organization have continued workplace injuries as a result of resident lifts and transfers, or manual materials handling in the workplace? 2

Injury Reduction Program Are you unsure of what changes are needed to improve your health and safety program to reduce these injuries? Or where to start? 3

The CCSA has a program for you! The CCSA’s Injury Reduction Program (IRP) is designed for members operating long term care and senior supportive living facilities throughout Alberta, Whether your operations are rural or urban, large or small, everyone can benefit from this unique program. Injury Reduction Program 4

In 2011, sites participating in the CCSA IRP saw on average a > 50% reduction in lost time claims. This ultimately led to decreased WCB rates for participating organizations. 5

Injury Reduction Program The program includes: An assessment of your current OHS program, lift and transfer techniques as well as manual materials handling techniques utilized by staff in your facility; up to one year of support to assist with implementing program changes to reduce injuries; hands-on training programs with on the floor follow up to ensure training goes from classroom to everyday work. 6

IRP Testimonials – Manak Dhillon, Manager, GEF “Often H & S is not on every ones forefront as we all are focused on finishing our daily tasks. Having the educators from CCSA work one-on-one with our staff gave a fresh perspective towards workplace safety, as the educators picked up on areas that normally staff would not think in terms of safety. The educators made working safe fun by having various contests and games; they offered practical tips and advice on making some of the more difficult and routine tasks easier and safer.” “The greatest benefit was the various training programs offered to staff on workplace safety. On a recent employee survey, employees scored our organization’s commitment towards Health and Safety at 88%!” 7

Get Involved in the Program! Do you want this type of health and safety success for your facility? To learn more about the program, or to register to participate, please visit our website.website 8
