The Facts Finland: 52% of adult women living in Finland has been victims of male physical or sexual violence, or threats, since their 15 th birthday. 50% of all women who were living or had been living in a marriage and cohabiting relationship had been victims of physical or sexual violence, or threats of violence, from their partner

The Facts England & Wales: Almost half of women in England & Wales experience domestic violence, sexual assault or stalking in their lifetime The direct cost to the economy of domestic violence alone in England & Wales in one year is £6billion. In addition, the human & emotional cost is estimated at £17billion

UK: Domestic violence accounts for between 16% of all recorded violent crime. In any one year, there are 13 million separate incidents of physical violence or threats of violence against women from partners or former partners. On average 2 women a week are killed by a male partner or former partner: this constitutes around one-third of all female homicide victims.

1 in 3 women may experience violence in their relationships with men Severe, repeated and systematic violence occurs in at least 5 of every hundred marriages in Britain Between 40 and 45% of murdered women are killed by their male partners More than 25% of all violent crime reported to the police is domestic violence of men against women, making it the second most common violent crime

Domestic violence has been identified as a prime cause of miscarriage or still-birth and of maternal deaths during childbirth 100,000 women per year seek treatment in London for violent injuries received in the home The cost of physical healthcare treatment resulting from domestic violence, is £1,220,247,000 which is 3% of the total NHS budget The cost of treating mental disorder due to domestic violence is £176,000,000.

Petition A goal is to gather 1 million signatures When the goal is reached the entire petition will be delivered to United Nations Secretary- General Ban Ki-moon
