Action Plan Mrs. Huma Abbas Science Teacher The City School Prep IIIs P.E.C.H.S Network Karachi. 15 th August – 15 th September 2011

LONG-TERM GOALS  To enable the students to understand the importance of plants to human and photosynthesis to plants.  To excites the students curiosity about the process of photosynthesis in plants.

SHORT-TERM GOALS  To enable the students to analyse the importance of sunlight in photosynthesis.  To enlighten the students about the products of photosynthesis.  To understand and evaluate the role of a leaf and root.  How do photosynthesis and respiration affect Oxygen levels.  Where and why do plants store food.  The role of fertilizer in plants.

 Provide opportunities to promote higher order thinking.  Engage students in ALTs and ABL strategies.  Through group work open house discussion will be promoted. Instructional Strategies and tasks

TIME LINE AUGUST 2 ND WeakPlants and photosynthesis T.S of a leaf 3 rd WeakWhat happens to glucose produced in the leaves 4 th WeakRole of roots Why green plants are important in the environment. SEPTEMBER 1 st WeakWhere does our food come from. How do fertilizers affect plant growth.

Putting theory into practical (Activities) Slide of T.S of a leaf will be shown Students will be asked to point out different parts of a leaf. Different shapes of the leaf will be shown to them (e.g Money plant and Cactus plant). Capillary movement of water will be shown by using a twig of tube rose Role of Nitrogen, phosphorous, Potassium and Magnesium will be discussed in detail with evidences. Different vegetables and fruits will be provided to the students for spotting the food storage. Use and application rate of fertilizer will be discussed and explained to the students.

CHALLENGESSOLUTIONS Shortage of time and resources. Lack of support from parents. Grouping may not be liked by students Home work will be given to explore the given topic. Students will be asked to explore by using computer at school. The importance of research and exploration shall be explained to the parents. Effective student counselling.

APPROACH TOPICAPPROACHIMPLEMENTATION Research Exploring and monitoring skills. Using the web and reference books. Surveys & quizzes. Collect facts & reasons. Provoke creativity and intellectual curiosity. Interactive discussions. Explain & share. Putting theory into practice. Demonstrating theory. Arriving conclusions. Activity based learning. Discussion. Convince each other. Debate.

The BLOOM’S TAXONOMY  There is more than one type of learning. A committee of colleges, led by Benjamin Bloom (1956), identified three domains of educational activities: Cognitive: mental skills (Knowledge) Affective: growth in feelings or emotional areas (Attitude) Psychomotor: manual or physical skills (Skills)

RESOURCES  Human resource.  My computer.   Heinemann Science Scheme 3.  Science Lab.

CONCLUSION  Science is built of facts as a house is built of stones.  But is no more a collection of facts than a house is a pile of stones.  The bricks stick with the material called skills.
