Demonstrative adjectives are used to point out people and objects. They indicate the relative position and distance between the speaker and an object or a person. Like all other adjectives, they agree in gender and number with the nouns they modify. They are usually placed before the modified noun. Demonstrative adjectives are usually repeated before each noun in a series.

Demonstrative adjectives function as pronouns when the noun they modify is omitted. To differentiate pronouns from adjectives, an accent marks is written on the stressed vowel of the demonstrative pronouns. Each demonstrative pronoun have a neuter form. The neuter form do not take an accent mark nor do they have plural forms or gender. They are used to point out ideas, actions, or concepts, they refer to unspecified objects or things.

These forms may also be used to inquire generally about the nature of objects or things. ¿Qué es eso? What’s that? ¿Qué es esto? What’s this?
