How Wind Energy Works Wind is a type of solar energy. Heating by the sun causes air mass to move from a higher pressure to a lower pressure. The kinetic energy from the moving air is translated into electrical energy.

Wind Energy The process by which the wind is used to generate mechanical power or electricity Historically windmills were used to pump water Today turbines are used to harness the wind for energy

Advantages of Wind Energy Safe for the environment – no fossil fuels are used Wind turbines do not take up as much space as an average power station Wind is free Wind will always be available. No polluting waste is released

Disadvantages Of Wind Energy How much wind is unpredictable Wind turbines are noisy Can be an eye-sore Produce less electricity than fossil fuels Installation can get pricy

Wind Turbines Use wind to make electricity Wind turns the blades that turns a shaft that is connected to a generator that makes electricity.

History on Wind Energy Earliest use of wind power started with the sail boat. First windmills were created to pump water and grind grain. Used for food production in the Middle East and then transferred to Europe Used to drain marshes and lakes by the Dutch

The Future of Wind Energy Modern turbines could produce three times as much energy used in 1990, if strategically placed worldwide. Produces no pollution, so wind energy doesn’t contribute to global warming or acid rain. Wind energy costs are coming down while other types of energy are rising. THE FUTURE OF WIND ENERGY
