Community Beautification Campaign by: Patrick Devin Murphy
Why is this important? Debris, trash and graffiti diminishes the quality of life Blight discourages investments
Goals Improve the physical appearance Peabody/Vance community Maintain the appearance of cleaned areas Encourage stakeholders to participate in all levels of the project Raise funds to support ongoing work and future cleanups
Accomplishing these goals Create a method to track chronic debris sites Location, type of debris, owner Report & track time it takes until removal Set up regular community cleanups Develop sponsors Recruit volunteers Obtain materials (i.e. tools, food, etc.) Convince stakeholders the project is worthwhile Marketing What do they get?
What we have accomplished Chronic debris sites Surveyed weekly Reported to appropriate agency Time taken for agency to respond tracked Monitored by YCAT Number of sites have decreased
Accomplishments Cont..... Community Cleanups Two this year 40 volunteers on average (UofM, Methodist, Tabernacle of Praise, Church Health Center) Tools secured from Memphis City Beautiful
