Progress on EMS/OSH Objectives Photo of the Week E. Lessard Collider-Accelerator Department Take 5 for Safety

Mid-Year Check on EMS/OSH Objectives  Based on the Management Review last October, the following are the ESSHQ objectives and measures established at C-AD for FY11:  Greenhouse Gas Emissions, 3% reduction  Unneeded Materials and Chemicals, 3% reduction  Regulatory, 0 Notices of Violation, 0 Permit Exceedances  0 Lost Workday Incidence  0 Total Recordable Incidence 2

Status as of  Greenhouse Gas Emissions, 3% reduction – - Indirectly, see next slide  Unneeded Materials and Chemicals, 3% reduction – - C- Line and D line cleanup, some chemicals at 801  0 Notices of Violation, 0 Permit Exceedances - 0 Notices of violation from regulators - 0 Spills  0 Lost Workday Incidence – - 2 DARTS + Injury from truck flip over (lost time) + Cut finger at TVDG (restricted work)  0 Total Recordable Incidence – - 2 Recordable Injuries + See above 3

DOE’s Site Sustainability Plan for BNL (GHG Reduction)  Install on-site renewable energy projects  Purchase renewable energy credits or carbon offsets as necessary  Temperature set-backs; more efficient office equipment  Long Island Solar Farm Project (32 MW PV array); install additional ~1 MW PV array for BNL  Solar powered traffic signals and parking lights; solar heating systems for B30 and B464  Continue acquiring Alternative Fuel Vehicles: 20% CNG and 80% E85 for all acquisitions  Continue installing advanced meters for steam and standard meters for water  Cool roofs have been specified; R-30 has been specified  Continue to train more staff; update employee orientation programs to include sustainability  Research cost-effective SF 6 leak-detection devices  Improve infrastructure as funding permits  Use best management practices for water conserva tion 4
