Monday 9/25/06 Drill Examples of flight safety card art Precision Activity (goes in notes) Review of Lab Safety Procedures (Quiz tomorrow!)

Drill A man is pulled over for driving erratically. The police administer a breathalyzer test and find his alcohol level to be 0.11 grams of alcohol per 210 liters of air in his lungs. The man, once an upstanding student of chemistry, asks to be tested 5 more times. The results are: – – The man claims the test is not precise enough and therefore he should not get a DUI (for levels 0.08 grams alcohol/210 L and above). Is the test accurate to the single’s place? The tenth’s place? The hundredth’s place? Should the man be charged with DUI?

Homework due Thursday Read Chapter 1 of your textbooks. Choose one idea that you think was well explained by the book. Write 5 sentences about why you found it easy to understand. Choose one idea that was not clearly explained to you by the book. Write 5 sentences about why it was confusing to you and suggest one way that it could have been made clearer.

Measuring the precision of our instruments here at Poly Read instructions on lab activity write-up. For chart I, you will have 1 minute to make each measurement. For charts II & III, you will have 90 seconds to make each measurement. Each group fills out ONE paper. At the end of class, each group will call out their data in turn. Make sure you have everybody’s data. Papers are due at the end of class. This is a classwork completion grade. Tomorrow we will talk about how to answer the questions after the lab safety quiz.
